Today we are thrilled to unveil all 42 works donated by prominent artists this spring to benefit @studiomuseum, which will highlight our exhibitions + sales of Contemporary Art this month in #NYC. The full proceeds of these works will support the campaign to construct the museum’s new home on 125th Street. Pictured here is @kehindewiley’s ‘Charles I’, which embodies many of the most important themes in the artist’s body of work, addressing notions of race, gender, and politics through the pictorial tropes of European portraiture. A Studio Museum Artist-in-Residence from 2001-02, Wiley’s work is a highlight of the Museum’s permanent collection, and has been featured in Museum exhibitions including ‘Kehinde Wiley: The World Stage: Africa, Lagos ~ Dakar’ (2008).
