The World at Night project
About two-thirds of human population, almost 5 billion people, live under light polluted skies, not dark enough to see the Milky Way. Seeing a truly dark sky is an experience you will not forget in your entire life. The patchy glow of our home galaxy shimmering from the far, above the horizon of our little planet, resembles a scene of science fiction to many people today, but this view still exists. April 15-21 is the International Dark Sky Week by @idadarksky, an organization that tries to preserve and protect the night time environment against light pollution.
Photographed here is the bright galactic core in constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius above the island of La Palma, Canaries. Planet Venus and fading dusk are on the right.
