In 20 days time my baby boy will be 6yrs old! Where on earth have the years gone? I never thought I’d find myself with a baby on my own - to begin with I was such an emotional wreck, seeing happy families playing in parks, proud parents at hospital appointments and dads cheering on their kids at sports day as I stood alone absolutely broke my heart and I couldn’t take it. There were a few times when I’d have to run into bushes to cry whilst out walking my dog and passing families with babies in prams because it felt like my heart would explode and I couldn’t breathe. Other times I’d be driving to work and a song would come on the radio and the words would leave me in floods of tears. Laying wide awake at night, afraid of the dark, afraid of the future, afraid of having to do everything on my own with nobody to tell me it would be alright I lived in a bubble of night feeds and brave faces. One of the happiest moments of my life in having my second child also very quickly became the saddest as I was recovering from an emergency breast reconstruction the week that I became a single mum. Not being able to hold my baby when I was hurting cut deeper than any wound but just seeing his face warmed my heart and gave me the strength to go on. I want to thank my angel for completing my heart, for helping me to heal and find my freedom. For showing me that I can do anything, survive anything, become anything. Children are a blessing that sadly not everyone will experience nor understand and truly appreciate. But for every absent parent in the world you can guarantee there’s a selfless, brave and extremely loving single mum/dad that more than makes up for it. I love you baby boy forever and always to the moon and back again --------------------------
