Gerhard Richter’s powerful 1025 Farben is from the final series of Colour Chart paintings completed by the artist between 1973 and 1974. Of the 21 Colour Chart works from this period, only two have come up for auction in the last twenty years and a staggering 11 now reside in prestigious museum collections worldwide. Removing all figurative subjects, Richter has refined and pared down painting to its simplest and yet most evocative form: colour.
