‘The Two Human Beings. The Lonely Ones’ by Edvard Munch depicts two figures standing on the shore of Åsgårdstrand looking out to the expanse of ocean in front of them. Throughout his printmaking, Munch dared to experiment; by employing a jigsaw technique in the woodcut process here, he emphasises the emotional divide between the figures and the atmosphere of existential loneliness that the work conjures.
