As December draws to an end and we reach the height of the festive Season, the Iranian community around the world gets ready to celebrate #Yalda, the winter solstice, which is on December 21st. The celebration of the longest night of the year (which is also, technically the last night of Autumn), consists on munching on pomegranates, dry fruits and nuts and drinking wine, but most importantly in gathering around a table with love ones and spend the night away reading poetry and telling stories. This year, after a couple of years, I am having a few friends over at my place for this evening. For the menù, I wanted to create something simple but very seasonal: I will be making a pomegranate thick soup (in Persian: Āsh), with legumes, rice, onions, herbs and of course pomegranate juice and molasses. For drinks, apart from the unavoidable red wine, I will be serving a very special #MartiniTonic, kept purposefully white. My initial thought was to add pomegranate juice, but I decided I wanted to keep the emphasis on the botanical flavor of white @martini aperitif, so I just add equal part of tonic water, and only one drop of rose water in each chilled glass. Fresh pomegranate seeds will then be scattered on top, which well fall gracefully to the bottom of the glass. A couple of dry rose petals for garnish, and my elegant, Christmasy drink to welcome my guest will be ready as easily as that! I’ll count on endless chats, candle lights, and some bouncy Iranian music to make everyone enjoy their evening! Is your Christmas food and drinks menù ready yet? #PlayWithTime @martiniit . . #FlavorsAndEncounters #LabNoonXmas
