100 years ago today, #Finland declared itself an independent republic. To mark the centenary celebrations, we’re getting ready to exhibit a group of works by three major Finnish artists: two landscapes by Eero Järnefelt and Akseli Gallen-Kallela, and two pictures by Helene Schjerfeck. The landscapes of Gallen-Kallela and Järnefelt added momentum to the Finnish independence movement, while Schjerfbeck’s intimate portraits and still lifes are an equally striking expression of the Finnish psyche. The group features as part of our 19th Century European Paintings auction in #London on 13 December, on view in our #NewBondStreet galleries from this Saturday. #Finland100
