@hlswift photographed a train pulling out of Broadway Junction, one of the busiest subway stations in Brooklyn. Every weekday, about 100,000 riders pass through the sprawling transit hub. It commands a prime location at the crossroads of 6 neighborhoods: Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brownsville, East New York, Cypress Hills, Ocean Hill and Bushwick. And it serves as the unofficial welcome center in a fast-growing part of NYC. The problem? It’s anything but welcoming. Now, though, NYC officials want to turn the tired station and the surrounding area into a bustling economic center. The focus on #BroadwayJunction comes as more people are living in NYC than ever before. In the past decade, development has spread across Brooklyn, raising concerns about gentrification. “This is not a destination,” said Julie Locke, 43, who’d rather see the city focus on adding more affordable housing and reducing crime. But Savvas Ioannou, 30, the manager of Paphos Diner, which sits beside the transit hub, said it’s time for #BroadwayJunction to catch up. “I’m excited to see what this development brings about,” he said. “This neighborhood is ready for change.” Visit the link in our profile to read more. #?
