“Ethiopia is one of the more exciting places in the world to visit right now: an attractive mix of ancient tradition and rapid modernization,” writes @staletwizzlers, @nytimestravel’s #FrugalTraveler. “What’s more, it can all be seen fairly economically.” After several days in the country’s capital, Addis Ababa, he turned his attention to the cities of #Lalibela, with its astounding group of rock-hewed churches, and Harar, the epicenter of Muslim culture in Ethiopia. Here, the photographer @andyhaslamphoto captured morning prayers at Bete Giyorgis, or Church of St. George, which is carved out of the earth.
