We visited the National Gallery Sculpture Garden outside of the @ngadc this week and spent almost an hour here in this very spot. The mural, its energy and the enclosure of Hobbit-like trees surrounding us in the middle of the city felt ethereal yet solemn. There was something unseen, moving and special about this mural and space that inspired us to pause and just be in it. I snapped this photo before jotting down any thoughts because the stillness of the blank page suited the feeling I experienced there. #myngadc #tigholidaytravel @thisisground . Upon researching more about this mural from the @ngadc website, I came upon this (quoted from their site): “In 1968, Marc Chagall visited the Washington, D.C., home of his friends and patrons Evelyn and John Nef, and decided that he would design a mosaic for their garden... The colorful, layered narratives are loosely drawn from Greek mythology and from the artist's personal experience... According to Chagall, this alludes not only to the general immigration of Europeans to America, but also to his own experience: smuggled out of Nazi-occupied France by the International Rescue Committee during World War II, the Jewish artist found safe haven in New York. In the lower right corner, two lovers nestle in the greenery.” . . . . #travelmemories #thisisground #tigmod #travelcase #ngadc #nationalgalleryofart #chagall #marcchagall #muralart #murals #holidaytravel #pegandawl #travelerscompany #traveljournal #journaling #creativelife #stationerylove #plannerlife #loveforanalogue #folio #leathercase #instatraveler #createeveryday #abmtravelbug #simpleandstill #aquietstyle
