When it comes to selecting toys for the Zoo’s Asian elephants, our animal keepers think big! This 800-pound weeble wobble toy was designed by students from MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art) to engage our elephants’ curiosity and encourage natural behaviors. In the wild, elephants fell trees while they forage. Similarly, having this novel item to push, pull and maneuver around the habitat provides exercise and demonstrates their incredible strength and problem solving abilities. Each elephant reacts differently to the toy; Maharani takes a crack at righting and moving the weeble wobble, while Kamala and Swarna look on. ?
