Panamanian golden frogs are the most toxic Atelopus species—the skin of a single individual contains enough toxin to kill 1,200 mice. They get their toxins from the insects they eat in the wild. The Zoo's frogs are not fed those insects, so they are safe for keepers to handle. Come to ZooFiesta tomorrow, Sept. 24, to learn more fun facts about this amazing species: http://s.si.edu/2cwPBcq.
