‘Christ Church, Summer Afternoon’ marks the apotheosis of Leon Kossoff’s series of works depicting Christ Church in #Spitalfields in London, Nicholas Hawksmoor’s Georgian Baroque masterpiece. Proudly exhibited in Kossoff’s landmark exhibition at the British Pavilion during the 1995 Venice Biennale, and featured on the catalogue front cover of Kossoff’s 1996 Tate retrospective where it was also shown, Christ Church, Summer Afternoon is an undoubted masterpiece from Kossoff’s seminal series. It will now be offered at auction for the first time at Sotheby’s in #London next week.
