Bauhaus_Defining a Century brings together two works from Josef Albers’ most iconic series. Tired of traditional #German painting, the artist responded enthusiastically to the radical #Bauhaus manifesto of 1919, which set out to promote harmony in art as an attempt to heal the psychological damage of the First World War. Homage to the Square: Temperate, 1957 will be offered as part of the Contemporary Art Evening Auction on October 5, followed by Study for Homage to the Square: Coniferous in the dedicated Bauhaus sale on October 6. As is revealed by the labels on the back of the painting, Study for Homage to the Square: Coniferous was previously in the collection of @ニューヨーク近代美術館.
