De-Luxe Tailors, one of the greatest works by #BhupenKhakhar ever to come to market, is currently on view in #Mumbai alongside highlights from Sotheby’s Modern and Contemporary #SouthAsianArt sale. Inspired by popular #realism, #Khakhar overthrew the dominant trend of abstraction which had been sweeping #IndianModernistArt to win acclaim as one of the greatest #IndianArtists of the 20th century. This work is the only #painting from the artist’s seminal ‘Tradesmen series’ to come to auction and was a highlight of the recent retrospective of the artist at the Tate Modern, #London. Given as a gift from Khakhar to his lifelong friend and mentor #HowardHodgkin, it will be offered as part of the Howard #Hodgkin: Portrait of the Artist sale taking place in London on 24 October. #PortraitoftheArtist
