@karstenmoran took this photo backstage at the @トムフォード runway show last night at the Park Avenue Armory. Is #NewYorkFashionWeek, which officially begins today but actually began yesterday (thank you, Tom Ford) over? This, according to @nytimesfashion’s @vvfriedman, is the existential question underpinning the fashion season. No, it’s “not ‘over’ in the literal sense, of course,” she writes. “There are more than 130 shows on the schedule. But ‘over’ in the substantive sense.” As major designers decide not to show in New York, the balance of power seems to be shifting from fashion insiders to Instagram influencers. “If you measure success during shows simply by viewership, by clicks and buzz, that’s probably absolutely fine,” @vvfriedman writes. “But if you measure success by the ability to bring decision makers to the city because they have to see — for themselves, not through a screen — the way a garment moves on the body, how it can resonate in the memory and change the way an individual may dress so that consumers look to this country for leadership, it might not be.” Visit the link in our profile to read more, and follow @nytimesfashion for live updates from #NYFW.
