#SpeakingInDance | “I grew up not being inhibited by moving in public,” said @jodimelnickdance. “It was very natural for me to run or cartwheel or dance through a space.” Selected by @danspaceproject to be in residence at Josiah McElheny’s #PrismaticPark, Jodi, a much-admired contemporary choreographer and dancer, unfurls her body with meticulous power and gossamer delicacy. From September 12 to 24, she’ll explore her solo practice at @madsqparknyc, but she’ll also invite guests to join her. (The first morning will feature the sublime #SaraRudner.) For Jodi, the park is a place of exploration: "I think it has to be about simplicity and space and lines and walking and running and occupying the space and incorporating all of those feelings that are going to come up — angst, frustration, joy,” she said. “By being with other people that are just not artists of my generation, it becomes in a way, political.” A passerby might wonder, "What is this person doing?
