Nobody puts baby in a corner — and certainly not in a room that looks like this. The photographer @bryananselm took a look inside the long-defunct Catskills resort that served as the inspiration for “Dirty Dancing.” The former Grossinger’s Resort Hotel in Liberty, New York, is about to be reborn. This spring, the owner applied for state help to clean up the contaminated ruins. It’s the first step in a plan to bring a glamorous resort back to the site, and maybe, with it, a bygone luster to the storied but tattered #Catskills itself. Considered the most enchanting of the area's resorts — there were about 500 in the mid-1900s — Grossinger’s was frequented by politicians and celebrities in its heyday. Today, it's a hodgepodge of crumbling buildings spread out over hundreds of acres. The swimming pool — shown here — and gazebos sit in ruin. Louis R. Cappelli, the real estate developer who bought the place in 1999, envisions a grand future: a conference center, housing, a spa and chalet-style lodging. “I want to build what is a 2017 model of Grossinger’s — with some sort of memories still there," he said.
