The lake is always, always healing. You know, I've noticed that on social media...everyone has the perfect marriage/relationship. Very rarely have I seen folks discuss openly that marriage and partnership takes work. We're quick to praise our people, a different sort of public display of affection, a claim. In some ways, a point of pride. Easy to do, we're in love. My wife is an incredible human being and I am grateful to be hers. Yet partnership is ebb and flow, seasons of good and seasons of difficult. Sometimes, all we want is time - time to connect and deepen and grow our relationship, and there is none to be found. So you drift apart a bit, knowing that there's a fine line you're walking, but that there's still a solid foundation underneath you. For us, a thirteen year friendship. Five and a half years of loving one another. Everything we've forged and broken through. We missed one another so deeply, that all we craved and needed was time to be. Time to look at one another again, or reach for one another's hands. Late nights with wine and games of "I never", or tussling sheets, or skinny dips in the twilight lake. Through all the movement of life, this woman is mine and I am hers, and may we never forget it.
