A packed sale room in #London tonight saw our #OldMasters Evening Sale achieve a grand total of £52.5 million. The star of the evening was undoubtedly J.M.W #Turner’s ‘Ehrenbreitstein’ which realised £18.5 million – the fourth highest price achieved for the artist. Thirteen #portraits across the night also proved popular, with Jan Sanders van Hemessen’s portrait of Elisabet, Court Fool of Anne of #Hungary, last sold at #auction for £11 in 1814, selling for a record £2.2 million. An important recently discovered #landscape by John #Constable was another highlight, making over three times its estimate. With nine records broken, participants from 32 countries and keen bidders online, the sale achieved a record sell-through rate of 85.3%.
