From 1977 to 1980, #CindySherman created a haunting series of 69 black-and-white photos called “Untitled Film Stills.” Her subjects played ingénues — young housewives, career girls — threatened, in noirish, B-movie solo scenes, by unnamed dangers lurking just out of camera range. “That work really changed my expectations of how photography can be viewed,” @jokemichaels told @nytimesfashion. “Specially that each of those photos could represent an untitled film that was never made.” Over the last 6 weeks, the photographer explored this idea in modern-day Los Angeles. While on assignment for @nytimesfashion, he photographed this woman, who was wearing all white and waiting for the bus after church. @jokemichaels, though, was attracted to her vintage pumps that evoked the '50s pin-up era. “In Los Angeles, we kind of fall victim to trends,” he said. “With my photographs, especially for this project, I kind of looked for more the classic, timeless aspects of Los Angeles. Things that don’t change.” Swipe left to see more of @jokemichaels’s #streetstyle photos.
