Antarctica’s ice sheet may have gone into the early stages of an unstoppable disintegration. Remote as the frozen continent may seem, every person in the world who gets into a car, eats a steak or boards an airplane is contributing to the emissions that put #Antarctica at risk. The continued existence of great coastal cities — like New York, London and Shanghai — is tied to its fate. We went there to understand how changes to the ice might affect the world. Our latest #VR film was narrated and photographed by 2 research divers at McMurdo Station, one of whom has more experience under the ice than anyone else on the planet. Under 8 feet of #Antarctic sea ice lies the clearest water on Earth. Visit the link in our profile to plunge through a small hole in the ice to dive with seals, explore ice caves, glide past stalactites of frozen seawater and swim over a rocky black seabed crawling with life. #regram from @i_n_s_t_a_g_r_a_h_a_m #virtualreality #NYTVR
