François de Poortere, Head of Christie’s Old Master Department in New York, is excited to bring this ‘spirited, sophisticated little picture’ to market for the first time. ‘You don’t necessarily think of this kind of work when you think of Van Dyck — this is a real collector’s item,’ he says.
