Taylor's portrait of slain Black Panther Bobby Hutton, murdered by cops as a teenager in 1968, is a powerful elegy for a young man whose unjust killing galvanized the Civil Rights movement. Taylor has effaced Hutton's features and renders his shirt with thick yellow impasto. The painterly figure contrasts strikingly against the flat charcoal gray background, where fragments of an American flag are scratched into a decaying wall.
