on an early winters evening we drove the twisting narrow roads of county Wexford - paralleled by miles of moss and lichen covered stonewalls glancing out over fields which reached toward the sea - the occasional ring-necked pheasant appearing as if by magic across our path it's copper colored feathers shimmering in the last of the light - as I think back on our trip home to visit my husbands family at Christmas I scarcely believe it was real at all - a sort of mercurial memory lying somewhere between myth and reality, like those first few moments between dreaming and waking - something of the country lodged itself deep into my heart on this last trip and there it has remained - I find myself looking back over images today aching to return to its shores in a few weeks time - wishing you all a happy saint patricks day
