Of New York City’s major museum collections, the @グッゲンハイム美術館’s is the hardest to see because so little of it’s usually on view. Blame Frank Lloyd Wright’s design, says @ニューヨーク・タイムズ co-chief art critic Holland Cotter. “Not that I object to the building,” he writes. “I’ve adored it since my first visit as an out-of-town kid in 1960, the year after it opened.” But now, the museum is showing its greatest hits. “Visionaries: Creating a Modern #Guggenheim” features 170 works from the permanent collection — a display that could be a snooze, “but in this case isn’t because a lot of these greatest hits really are great.” The main route through the show is broadly chronological, beginning with Camille Pissarro and ending with Jackson Pollack. For visitors, the journey is a pleasure. “No need to consult floor plans,” Holland writes. “No wandering off course. If your visiting time is short, shift into 4-wheel drive, head straight uphill and you’ll be done in under an hour” — in true New Yorker style.
