For years, Blanca Riveros has kept the same routine: After fixing breakfast and taking her son to school, she heads home to a large plastic trash bag filled with #marijuana. She trims the plants and gets them ready for Colombian drug traffickers. After school, her son helps cut more. Her business was long overseen by Colombia’s largest rebel group, the FARC. When the government signed a peace deal with the fighters last year, though, the state swept in and reclaimed Blanca’s remote mountain village, Corinto, threatening to end the trade. “How am I supposed to feed my family?” Blanca asked @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. But now she has an unlikely option: growing marijuana with the government’s blessing. A Canadian company called PharmaCielo is working to produce the drug legally in #Colombia and is looking to hire. It’s an unorthodox experiment, one that underscores Colombia’s changing attitudes toward drugs after decades of fighting them. @juanarre photographed Blanca trimming plants while her 8-year-old son watched Colombian show horses on YouTube.
