In March 2011, an 8.9-magnitude earthquake and a devastating tsunami struck in deadly tandem in Japan. The 2 natural disasters ultimately caused a meltdown at a nuclear power plant in #Fukushima — the worst nuclear accident since the Chernobyl explosion in 1986. Thousands of people fled from their homes, offices and schools, many assuming they would return a few days later. Instead, most left, and fearing radiation, never came back. 6 years later, the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reporter Motoko Rich and the photographer Ko Sasaki visited the deserted areas around the nuclear plant, where evidence of sudden flight is everywhere.
