“It’s quite a divisive movie. It’s not easy to describe," Kristen Stewart said of the ghostly “Personal Shopper," which comes out today. In the film, Kristen plays a role the French director Olivier Assayas wrote specifically for her. Her character’s day job: personal shopper, of course. But she’s also a medium in search of a sign that her dead twin brother is still by her side. “She’s half of a person,” said the actress, who’s almost 27. “She’s trying to supplement that loss and figure out who she is within that, and also within this very strange, superficial environment, which is this fashion world that she’s drawn to but also repelled by.” In 2015, Kristen became the first American actress to win a César Award — a French Oscar — for her role in Olivier’s “Clouds of Sils Maria.” “In this sort of very French way of doing things, they personally sent me the script,” Kristen recalled. “And it was beautiful.” She waited for a follow-up, American-style. Assuming her silence meant she wasn’t interested, the filmmakers offered part to someone else. But “the stars just realigned in this very, very lucky way,” she said.
