Sewing, fabric, and embroidery formed the backdrop to #LouiseBourgeois’ childhood, spent in her family’s tapestry repair business in the suburbs of #Paris. The family business and family home were entirely entwined, and her active involvement in the workshop from an early age cemented her path: “I became an artist, whether I wanted to or not.” Containing a human scaled heart hooked up to a life support machine of cotton reels and glass orbs, Bourgeois’ ‘Heart’ is in many ways a self-portrait of the artist. In her words “For me, sculpture is the body.
