Corneille de Lyon’s #portrait of Madame de Pisseleu (c. 1545) favourite and mistress of King François I, demonstrates the precise and meticulous treatment of oil paint typical of the artist; each pearl, each enamelled link in the #necklace and each golden thread in the #embroidery work is depicted with a fine touch. The modelling of the face is light and fluid too, and the underlying #drawing consisting of simple contours can be perceived. King’s lover and mistress of his heart and ear, François I never tired of Madame de Pisseleu, and she was the first of the official mistresses of the #French court to wield real political power. The #painting will be offered in our sale of the collection of renowned Parisian dealers, the Bacri brothers, at @sothebysfr #Paris on 30 March. #sothebysparis
