Today we celebrate the life of the great naturalist Charles Darwin, who was born on 12 February 1809. One of highlights of our Contemporary Art Evening Auction in #London on 8 March will be the monumental canvas (202.5 x 238.3cm) Self Portrait as Charles Darwin, 2011, by the #Romanian painter Adrian Ghenie. Ghenie is known for his exploration of the impact of Darwin’s revolutionary discoveries and the implications of his ‘survival of the fittest’ theory of natural selection, themes the artist explored in a celebrated exhibition at the 2016 Venice Biennale entitled ‘Darwin’s Room’. #sothebyscontemporary #darwinday #adrianghenie #charlesdarwin
