Spent a white Christmas weekend in snowy terrain – visited Jigokudani Yaen-koen (Snow Monkey Park) and Bijin Bayashi Forest.

The Jigokudani snow monkeys (actually wild Japanese macaques) soak themselves in the natural hot springs in the park to escape the winter cold. It was fascinating to watch the monkeys in their natural environment. They are used to human visitors (who are strictly forbidden to feed them) and mostly ignore us.
