Santiago Calatrava's #Oculus, reflected in the mirrored glass of the @911memorial in Lower Manhattan. A quarter-mile stretch of Greenwich Street disappeared from the Manhattan maps in 1967, and then from the face of New York on September 11, 2001. But now, this stretch of street making a comeback. 3 of the 4 World Trade Center towers have their entrances on Greenwich Street, as does the #Oculus, the @westfieldworldtradecenter mall and the trade center transit hub. The future of the street includes a performing arts center in 2020. The center will stand opposite 2 World Trade Center, which is set to begin construction when the developer finds a major tenant. And the Cortlandt Street subway station on the No. 1 line, which has been closed since 9/11, should reopen in 2 years, with entrances on Greenwich Street. Visit the link in our profile to read David W. Dunlap’s final “Building Blocks” column, about the resurrection of Greenwich Street, and to see more photos by @damonwinter.
