Debbie Devlin owns 2 shops on the boardwalk in Atlantic City. In a normal year in this New Jersey seaside resort, residents and business owners like Debbie would be getting ready for a summer-long influx of tourists and gamblers. But this is in no way a normal year in Atlantic City. In 2014, 4 of the city's 12 casinos closed. Now, its government is on the verge of running out of money and its mayor and City Council are engaged in a political standoff with Governor @chrischristie. Debbie only recently began ordering merchandise for this year, about 4 months later than usual. And she’s doing that cautiously. “With all the different factions fighting each other, we’re stuck in the middle,” said Debbie, an Atlantic City native. The photographer @bryananselm took a peek inside one of Debbie’s colorful shops, which sells painted hermit crabs and other novelties.
