On a visit to San Francisco, @nytimestravel's #FrugalTraveler asked a high-end concierge for a 1-day itinerary ($1000). Then, our columnist adapted the itinerary to a less indulgent budget ($100). That meant breakfast at the AA Bakery & Cafe on Stockton Street in Chinatown ($4.10); a ride on the San Francisco Bay Ferry to Oakland ($6.40 each way, salty sea air included); a beer at the saloon ($6), a sandwich from @tartinebakery ($14.50); a rowboat ride in Golden Gate Park ($20); and a stop at the @deyoungmuseum ($10, but free after 4:30). He ended his day with Italian-Thai fusion at Thoughts Style Cuisine ($13) and a drink at Doc’s Clock, a divey local bar on Mission Street.
