You won’t find San Francisco’s Pier 96 in any travel guidebooks, but it has become a must-see destination for visitors from Afghanistan to Vietnam. They’ve come to explore @recologywz, one of the world’s most advanced recycling plants — home to 630 tons of trash. Every day, the plant untangles a 30-foot hill of debris collected by trucks from across the city. “It’s Willy Wonka’s everything-you-can-imagine recycling place,” Robert Reed, a guide, told @ニューヨーク・タイムズ during a recent tour. @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer @joshhaner captured the plant, where foreign officials and others come to pick up tips on how to handle their own mushrooming piles of garbage.
