“All cultures have clichés,” the Scottish photographer @kierandodds told the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ #lensblog in a recent interview. His culture’s cliché: “There’s always this warrior spirit thing which came from William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. We kind of use it for tourist promotion. And so I say it’s a useful cliché. And it’s also a good cliché. Who wouldn’t want to be a ferocious warrior in the world’s eyes?” @kierandodds took this photo of a reenactment of the Battle of Bannockburn, where Robert the Bruce triumphed over by King Edward II of England. @kierandodds personal photo project, #landofscots, explores the myths and stories that have come to define Scotland. This #nytweekender, we’ll be sharing more of @kierandodds’s photos that pursue the question of Scotland’s identity.
