How can a small bookstore expand its footprint? In Nashville, the newest book-selling business can be found in an old van. The bright blue #bookmobile, which hit the road this week, is a roving offshoot of @parnassusbooks, a popular independent bookstore. Since @parnassusbooks opened in 2011, Karen Hayes, one of its co-owners, has looked at taco trucks and ice cream trucks and felt envious of their freedom to take business on the road. And she isn’t alone. While bookmobiles aren’t about to become as common as food trucks, those that do exist — in Decatur, Georgia and Austin, Texas, for instance — might indicate that indie stories are beginning to thrive again. Nashville’s bookmobile, which Karen found on eBay for $10,000, packs around 1,000 books. Also along for the ride: Opie, Belle, Mary Todd Lincoln, and Bear, all pictured here in a photo by Nathan Morgan, the resident @parnassusbooks #dogs. #?
