Artist #FranzMarc was born on this day in 1880. A seminarian and philosophy student turned artist, Marc found spiritual redemption in nature. By 1907, he devoted himself almost exclusively to the representation of animals in nature, through which he expressed his spiritual ideals. To complement this imagery, Marc developed a theory of color Symbolism through specific color combinations and contrasts intended to express inner states. For Marc, yellow was a “gentle, cheerful and sensual” color that symbolized femininity, while blue represented the “spiritual and intellectual,” symbolizing masculinity.
