Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Dancing girl drawn by a WWI American soldier on the walls of an underground city near the former front line trenches in rural France. This place has been in darkness for a hundred years and contains many inscriptions, carvings and drawings by American soldiers who found shelter in this centuries old subterranean quarry for about six weeks.

Prior to the American presence it was occupied by French WWI troops. Not far from this drawing is the “Post Telephonique“... the telecommunications center for the entire underground city. It’s marked by a magnificent carving that resembles the face of an ancient warrior.
