Photo: @stephenwilkes | This is a small section of my Day To Night of the Cherry blossoms in full bloom on the National Mall in Washington DC.

In March of 1912, the mayor of Tokyo City, Yukio Ozaki, presented Japanese Cherry Trees to the city of Washington to highlight the friendship between the United States and Japan. It was eventually decided that the trees would be planted along the National Mall. The most visited national park, the National Mall receives over 24 million visitors each year, many of whom plan their visit around the blooming of the cherry trees. I shot this day to night from the top of a crane in the center of a softball field. It's a view that exists only in this photograph. Having the opportunity to watch the warm sunlight turn to midday light and then twilight was really quite magical. If you look closely, you can see color of the cherry blossoms change as the day's light hits them from different angles.
