Most natural history museums were created at a time when people thought they needed to subdue the Earth. Today, the Natural History Museum in Berlin understands its role as an educational one: their mission is to teach visitors about the imperative need to preserve our planet. The storage vaults behind the scenes of the museum, containing over 30 million specimen, are a testament to this earlier belief. These songbird and parrot skeletons in the so-called “bird hall” would feel equally at home in a haunted house, as they appear to retain a ghost of their living personality.
