“When I go don't cry for me In my fathers arms I'll be The wounds this world left on my soul Will all be healed and I'll be whole It don't matter where you bury me I'll be home and I'll be free It don't matter where I lay All my tears be washed away” Emmylou Harris – “All My Tears” On the 14th of November 2015 Justin Tyler Griffin fell to his death on Tawoche, a peak in the Khumbu Himal. Skiy DeTray and Justin were descending the peak when he slipped down climbing a section of moderate ice. Justin and Skiy had just completed the first ascent of the North Buttress of this formidable peak and were minutes away from “crampon point”. In his 35 years Justin explored the planet and his own capabilities with a remarkable intensity. From being a Kentucky state champion high school miler to building award winning structures in Montana Justin excelled at all that he put his mind to. While we will never be able to answer the “why” of life’s passing, we can take solace in the in grace that our loved ones lived. Justin is survived by his wife Laura and their young daughter Alice. There is a space in our lives that time and love will heal. For the family of Justin – you are in our thoughts and prayers and are here for you. Passing is never easy. Life isn’t easy. Life is interesting because it is a challenge. Justin spent two weeks prior to the climb @khumbuclimbingcenter working on the community building. On this, his first expedition to Nepal, he was compelled to use his skills as a carpenter to give something back. His dedication to the project inspired the people of Phortse. Thank you Justin. On this day of giving thanks let us remember our loved ones no longer with us, cherish their memories and let us be thankful for the miracle of life. Take a picture of your loved ones. Smile, laugh and be present with clear intent. Love you Justin. Photo by Joe Wagner
