''Until you take time to think about it, a blow landing in a bare-knuckle fight sounds more different than ominous. There isn't anything overtly negative to it, nothing so unmistakably a sign that something has gone wrong to a body, like a crack or snap. It's quieter than a slap and even quieter than the clap of a glove hitting a midsection full-on. But, if you've grown accustomed to the sometimes clapping, sometimes popping, sometimes puh-puhing noise of gloves striking, there is a less resonant thudding that is, in its own way, unsettling.
