“As a creative director I had the privilege to direct #Maddo’s #PipeDream, and like most of the incredible team we had out in Tahiti, on this day I wore more than one hat. We were on a skeleton crew due to an unanticipated extension as a massive swell was coming in. The conditions were far from ideal. Not only did we have surprise rain that day but also the size of the wave and shape of the break made it unusually difficult to capture. Robbie took the second wave in a massive set of five, and after struggling to get in front of the crashing white water behind him, he eventually was engulfed and taken under. Because of the preparations made by Raimana and his water-safety team we were able to find him and pull him out, but not before the set nearly took his life. Prayers were answered that day. Robbie is a superhuman on and off the bike.
