Jiagui Su, 33, climbed the ladder to his loft bedroom in #Zhaoqing, China. He was diagnosed with #schizophrenia while working in Guangzhou. The photographer @yuyang_liu_ was drawn to Jiagui Su’s story because the severely mentally ill and their families are often overlooked in China, if not completely ignored. “This is a group of people who are invisible in normal society,” @yuyang_liu_ told the #lensblog. “We can’t see them in schools or workplaces, and we don’t see their families.” In the next phase of the project, which has included a number of families in Guangdong Province, @yuyang_liu_ will photograph in different regions, hoping to get the Chinese government to give more attention — and resources — to the issue of #mentalhealth.
