José Tixi, right, with his family in their home in San Luis, Ecuador. José works at a hydroelectric plant project run by a Chinese engineering company and financed by the Chinese Export-Import Bank. Many of the Ecuadoreans working alongside José have repeatedly protested about working conditions on the project, which was supposed to be ready late last year, but has been plagued by issues. In December, 11 Ecuadorean and three Chinese workers were killed and a dozen were hurt when an underground river burst into the tunnel and flooded the powerhouse. @ivankphoto photographed a number of sites where #China is spreading its wealth in Ecuador.
