A girl washed clothes in Wau Shilluk, a swampland village on the Nile in #SouthSudan. Despite repeated attempts at peace, some of the deadliest fighting of the civil war raging in South Sudan, the world’s newest nation, has erupted in the last few months. The population of Wau Shilluk has exploded from 3,000 to more than 39,000 as people have fled their homes seeking safety from marauding soldiers. For more than a month, no aid could get there because of the fighting. Children described going as many as five days without a meal.
