For a month in 1973, Felipe Agüero was a prisoner at Chile’s National Stadium, perhaps the most infamous sports arena in the world. The stadium served as a makeshift prison camp for eight weeks after the military coup that overthrew the country’s Marxist president. In November of that year, officials began preparing the stadium for Chile’s scheduled #WorldCup qualifying match against the Soviet Union and its days as a prison camp were over. Felipe remembered watching the men from @fifa go about their inspection. “We wanted to yell out and say, ‘Hey, we are here, look at us,’ ” he said. “But they seemed only interested in the condition of the grass.” This year, the Estadio Nacional will host six games in @copaamericachile2015. Fernando Rodriguez photographed Felipe for @nytimessports.
